It's our 30th anniversary

Saint Michael’s Hospice is very excited to be celebrating its 30th anniversary with supporters, volunteers and staff this year.

Many of you will be familiar with the rich history of Saint Michael’s, which was officially constituted in April 1987, to become the area’s first hospice care charity. The service was created by dedicated and passionate people across the Harrogate district, who were concerned that local people with terminal illness were living and dying in pain and without the respect and dignity they deserved. With no radical change to the health service on the horizon, they decided care and support needed to be available locally for people in this situation and set about raising the money needed to fund such a service. In 1989 the charity welcomed its first inpatient, and since these pioneering beginnings, the organisation has grown from strength to strength to become a leading UK Hospice.

Today it is delivering a network of inpatient and outpatient services that support more than 2000 people each year, whilst also raising the millions of pounds needed annually to fund them.
As Saint Michael’s reaches this 30th anniversary milestone we are looking forward to celebrating the impact of the charity’s work and thanking everyone who has contributed to this success. We also want to look to the future, and the next 30 years, with a plan for how we continue to develop these vital care services together with our community, so the hospice can continue to be there for more people when they need it most.

The hospice will begin celebrating its 30 year anniversary in April 2017, with celebrations running for 12 months.
