Saint Michael's Milestones
Some of the highlights include:
1985: Harrogate District Hospice Care, now known as Saint Michael’s, was incorporated.
1986: Our first drop-in and telephone help-line was established at the Convent Society of the Holy Child Jesus, Harrogate.
1989: The first patient was admitted to our five bed inpatient unit at the Convent of Society of the Holy Child Jesus, Harrogate.
1992: An appeal was launched to raise the £1.4m needed to purchase Crimple House, Harrogate, which would enable to the charity to offer more services to local people.
1994: The £1.4million fundraising target was achieved and a ten bed inpatient unit and 12 place day therapy centre opened for patients.
1997: Saint Michael’s Hospice begins offering lymphoedema support for the people of the Harrogate district.
2002: The Keystone Appeal was launched to raise the £550,000 needed to make the essential improvements to Crimple House, thus improve inpatient and day therapy facilities available to local people.
2003: Our new day therapy centre was opened at Crimple House by the Duchess of Norfolk.
2007: A five year strategy was launched which aimed to double the number of people Saint Michael’s cared for annually, from 1,200 to 2,400.
2009: Saint Michael’s opened a second base in the community at Burton House, Hookstone Oval, enabling the charity to offer extended lymphoedema care and bereavement support.
2009: Saint Michael’s launches Just ‘B’, a community bereavement service, offering support to children, young people and adults, whether they are connected to the Hospice or not.
2010: Saint Michael’s employed the first nurse to work out in the community, marking the charity’s expansion into specialist home support.
2011: Saint Michael’s completes its five year strategy of service improvement and expansion - nearly 18months ahead of schedule.

We rely on donations from people like you.
Saint Michael’s needs £3.9million a year to continue its work, and less than 20 per cent of this funding comes from the NHS.
