Let Every Day Have Love.

I’m a lover of Valentine’s Day although I don’t buy into the massive commercialism that attaches itself to the event.  I think that most of the £500 million spent each year in Britain on cards, gifts and flowers could be put to much better use, not surprisingly like supporting charities such as my mine, St Michael’s Hospice in Harrogate.

Saying this, for Saint Michael's skydive challenge posterthe last fourteen years I have been spoilt with gifts, roses and hand written notes from my wonderful partner.  Unfortunately for him, he has been gifted with Valentine’s home-made meals, where I have given him food poisoning not just once but three times, and so now he’s very happy just to receive a card and a kiss and suggests very early on that we eat out or buy in takeaway to celebrate the ‘special’ day.

Sharing special moments together is what makes Valentine’s Day don’t you think?

That is why, this year, Saint Michael’s has created an unforgettable ‘Love is in the air’ experience with  our partners at local radio station Stray FM, offering two winning love birds the opportunity to jump out of a plane, together, from 15,000 ft.  In less than a tweet the competition asks lovers to explain why it should be them.  Look out for news; the winners are due to be announced over the coming days.

But if you didn’t enter the competition or did and are unsuccessful you can still take part in this challenge. We are looking for as many people as possible to skydive for our Hospice and  our website has details on how you can sign-up.

What an experience to share with your special person – something you’ll both never forget.

There’s also plenty of opportunities for those who want to go it alone, or like me, who wouldn’t get their partner anywhere near a tandem skydive. We can help you tick items off your ‘life list’. What about scaling Kilimanjaro, getting your belly button pierced or swimming with sharks? All can be arranged as a sponsorship option by St Michael’s. What an experience to share with your special person – something you’ll never forget. And at the same time you are supporting your local Hospice- something we will never forget.
