SKYDIVE FEVER GRIPS HARROGATE DISTRICT
SKYDIVE fever is gripping the Harrogate district.

- Sarah Barry, Patrick Dunlop and Alex Cann from Stray FM have signed up to Skydive for Saint Michael’s
More than 50 fun-seeking philanthropists have signed up to the Saint Michael’s fundraiser since it was launched in January.
And the excitement has lead organisers from the charity to announce plans for a second skydive date.
Places for the second date on Saturday March 24 are already being snapped up and local radio station Stray FM is amongst those urging further registrations.
Stray FM’s programme controller, Nick Hancock, said: “The opportunity to throw our mid-morning presenter, head of news and managing director out of a plane was too good to pass up.
“Our listeners are getting right behind the initiative and we’re delighted that so many people in the area have signed up to join us on the skydive.
“It’s a great cause and we’re glad to be involved.”
The 15,000ft tandem skydive in Hibaldstow, Lincolnshire, is the highest in the UK and is popular with first-timers as well as seasoned thrill-seekers.
Saint Michael’s are encouraging their supporters and members of the public from the Harrogate district to tick skydiving from their Life List, a concept that the charity launched in January.
Saint Michael’s Life List gives local people the chance to register their own custom catalogue of challenges, with staff then helping the person fulfil their ambitions.
This may include challenges like skydive, a London to Paris bike ride, marathons and swims or overseas treks like the trip to Machu Picchu in October 2011 which involved more than 20 Saint Michael’s supporters.
Saint Michael’s chief executive, Tony Collins, said: “We couldn’t be happier about the reaction to our skydive.
“There was a lot of demand and the first day filled up quickly so we responded by putting on an extra date and that is already filling up too.
“There are still plenty of places available so we hope many more people will get the urge to tick skydiving from their Life List and rope in as many of their friends and family as they can.”
Saint Michael’s are taking registrations for the Saturday March 24 skydive until Friday March 2. It costs a minimum of £395 in total with £95 due at registration and the remaining amount of personal sponsorship due the day before the event.
Challenge events like the skydive, as well as general donations and gifts left by people in their wills, have to contribute more than 80 per cent of the £3.9m it costs Saint Michael’s each year to maintain its current level of service.
To register or for more information contact Saint Michael’s on (01423) 879 687.
