Bereavement professionals discuss organ donation

ORGAN DONATION is on the agenda at the next meeting of a networking group for professionals working with the bereaved. 
The Harrogate District Bereavement Consortium, hosted by the Just ‘B’ bereavement support team, is holding its next meeting in June.
The meeting will focus on the topic of organ donation and how this affects families, an issue that Just ‘B’, a service offered by Saint Michael’s, is keen to discuss.
The chief executive of Saint Michael’s, Tony Collins, said: “Our Just ‘B’ bereavement consortium meetings are designed to offer professionals a chance to share their experiences, network and work together to offer better support for those experiencing bereavement in the Harrogate district.
“At this session we will be tackling the issue of organ donation, an important topic within the arena of bereavement support as three people in the UK die each day waiting for a transplant.”
A special guest speaker at the event will be Jayne Fisher, specialist organ donation nurse at the Yorkshire Organ Donation Service Team.      
The consortium is free and open to professional people working with or who have an interest in bereavement issues facing, children, young people and adults.
It is one of the professional services offered by Just ‘B’, based at Hookstone Oval, Harrogate, which provides support services to children, young people and adults who have been bereaved, as well as information and advice for professionals working with them.
Other services offered by Just ‘B’ include written or verbal information about pre and post bereavement, as well as bereavement support over the phone, face to face and in groups.
Counselling and appointments with a psychologist are also available, where appropriate.
Just ‘B’ is one of the services offered by Saint Michael’s, the local charity helping people to live with terminal illness and bereavement.
The next meeting of the consortium will be held at Saint Michael’s Hospice, Hornbeam Park Avenue, Harrogate, HG2 8QL, on Tuesday June 12, between 2-4pm.
