Volunteer visitors service extends reach to support even more people
Saint Michael’s award-winning volunteer visitors service is poised to help even more people, as part of the hospice care charity’s continued mission to develop and extend its services to meet the needs of the community across the Harrogate District.
When Saint Michael’s launched its innovative volunteer visitor service, the aim was to develop a service which would help support people living with a terminal illness in their own homes.
And since the service was introduced we are delighted we’ve been able to more than double the number of volunteers available to provide a weekly visit, providing vital companionship and support anyone affected by a terminal illness, regardless of whether they are accessing other hospice care services.
Now adults accessing Saint Michael’s Just ‘B’ specialist bereavement support service can also benefit from a specially-trained volunteer visitor, to provide a listening ear, reducing isolation and helping support people’s emotional wellbeing.
Just ‘B’ provides bereavement support to anyone in the community whether they are connected to one of our hospice patients or not. It is suitable for people experiencing any type of bereavement, including suicide, murder, motoring accident or terminal illness.
