Make a Will Month to support Harrogate Hospice Charity
PEOPLE in the Harrogate District are urged to make their will as part of a charitable initiative this April, as selected solicitors waive their fees to help raise funds for a local hospice care charity.
Berwins, Bywaters Topham Phillips, Grahame Stowe Bateson, Greenwoods, Hutchinson and Buchanan , LCF Barber Titley, McCormicks, Stowe Family Law and Winston Solicitors will all waive their usual fees for making a basic single or mirror will as part of Saint Michael’s annual Make a Will Month .
Instead, participants are encouraged to make a donation in lieu of legal fees, to support local people living with terminal illness and bereavement.
Chief Executive of Saint Michael’s, Tony Collins, said: “We want to give local people the opportunity to make or amend their will as part of an initiative which is simple, straightforward and offers peace of mind.
“What’s more, with one in two people touched by hospice care, you’ll gain the rewarding knowledge that your Make a Will Month donation has made a real difference to someone right here in our community.
“For example, a donation of just £160 – less than the average cost of making a will – could help Saint Michael’s to visit five more people living with a terminal illness, supporting them to stay in their own home for as long as possible,” Tony added.
Sarah Brockwell of Ripon and her husband Terry were among the scores of people who took part in last year’s Make a Will Month initiative, which raised more than £12,000 for Saint Michael’s.
Sarah, aged 80, said: “We had already made wills but it was a long while ago and they needed updating – this seemed like a perfect opportunity.
“It was very easy to take part. We were able to make an appointment with no trouble and saw a very helpful solicitor who listened to what we wanted and gave us advice, before making the necessary amendments.
“It’s a big weight off my mind to know everything is sorted and lovely to know that by doing something I needed to do anyway, I’m also helping such an important local charity,” she added.
Make a Will Month runs throughout April but appointments are limited and are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
