Saluting some superstar skydivers supporting Saint Michael’s

On a sunny Sunday in July, a special bus set off from Harrogate, bearing a posse of plucky people who opted to go the extra mile to support Saint Michael’s –  by doing a skydive.
In Saint Michael’s 30th anniversary year, we were delighted to be the focus of fundraising from the recent annual Harrogate Hospitality and Tourism Awards. As part of the evening’s celebrations, hosted and organised by Simon Cotton and David Ritson, the audience was challenged to join Simon and David in a special mass sky dive event.
The challenge was duly taken up and 32 excited people set off to Hibaldstow airfield in Lincolnshire for a 15,000 feet skydive, incorporating a thrilling one-minute freefall at speeds of up to 120mph.

One of the skydivers, Ben Constable, from Skinny Designs said: “I had the biggest grin on my face the whole time; I was so happy to be there. I was worried beforehand I’d be terrified, but adrenaline just took over and it was very exciting. It’s an incredible feeling. and amazing to do it for such a good cause.”

Harrogate Builder John Ellwoood, said: “I would have done 10 in a row, if I could have! Words can’t describe what it felt like – it was just awesome.”

John had agreed to do the skydive on behalf of his wife, whose mother was cared for by Saint Michael’s 23 years ago. He’s now tempted to have a go at a wing walk next year to support the hospice care charity…

Huge thanks to general manager of Cedar Court Simon Cotton and General manager of the Old Swan David Ritson on behalf of Destination Harrogate, for organising this special day; The Harrogate Bus Company for helping with transport and Andy Annat of Crackerjack Caterers for catering.
