Matt’s offbeat idea supports local hospice care charity

A HARROGATE man is drumming up support for a world record-breaking attempt which will raise money for local charities.

Matt Pargeter will be starting a Guinness World Record attempt of drumming continuously for 170 hours at Harrogate’s Victoria Shopping Centre from 5pm on October 3, finishing on World Mental Health Day, October 10.

Matt Pargeter has set himself this off-beat challenge to raise vital funds for the Harrogate Homeless Project, Harrogate District Mind and the Acorn Centre and Saint Michael’s Hospice. He has set himself a fundraising target of £10,000.

While Matt keeps time with an eclectic soundtrack, with only the smallest of breaks, other local acts will be dropping in throughout the week to add their support.

Matt now needs more volunteers to help validate his attempt, and needs witnesses and timekeepers throughout the 170 hours. To sign up for a slot, go to, To get in touch with Matt to help with his attempt, email To sponsor him, visit his JustGiving page:
