Saint Michael’s Hospice Garden of Life has been awarded gold at the iconic Harrogate Spring Flower Show thanks to the dedication and support of the local community.
Chief Executive of Saint Michael’s, Tony Collins, explained how the award-winning garden was created to mark the charity’s 30th anniversary year: “For three decades our community has shaped local hospice care, from grassroots beginnings to the remarkable breadth of services Saint Michael’s offers today. These services have developed in response to the needs of local people, and continued to grow thanks to their ongoing support.
“Our very special garden, created together with local people, reflects this journey and the vital role of our community.
“We are delighted that The Garden of Life has been awarded gold as part of such a well-loved community event; this prestigious accolade recognises the tremendous efforts of our volunteers, staff and supporters, and is a truly fantastic achievement in our 30th anniversary year.
“Central to the garden is Saint Michael’s Tree of Life, a unique new sculpture adorned with leaves of gold, silver and bronze – each carrying a personalised tribute in memory of a loved one.
“Each leaf is an enduring symbol of life and love, and these find a fitting place at the heart of the garden, just as local people and their families are at the heart of all that Saint Michael’s does.”
Key elements of the design were provided and installed by local businesses Daleside Nurseries, Dragon Willow, F Bradley & Sons and Riverside Quarry, with the Tree of Life crafted and donated by Haresign Bespoke.
The community are invited to make a personalised dedication on the Tree of Life either whilst visiting the Harrogate Spring Flower Show or online at www.saintmichaelshospice.org or by calling (01423) 878 628.
