A labour of love
As part of Hospice Care Week, we’re meeting some of the faces of hospice care who share how Saint Michael’s helps them to do what they love.
Nurse Jo Whitakker was inspired to work for Saint Michael’s having experienced our special care, comfort and support herself, when her mother was looked after at the hospice 20 years ago.
Now Jo, who has been part of the Saint Michael’s team for 16 years, is a nursing team leader, working closely with the other clinical staff to ensure tailor-made care for every patient.
“It’s a privilege to be able to use your skills and training to deliver continued quality of care, ” said Jo. “Working at Saint Michael’s is very rewarding and I love being part of a holistic team giving such extra special care. It’s the highest quality of specialist palliative care you can give.
“I know how it feels to be scooped up and looked after by Saint Michael’s, with care and support to help with all that is going on. For me, to be able to deliver that care to others is a privilege.”
