Last chance to Make a Will this April and support your hometown hospice
APPOINTMENTS are filling up fast in our popular Make a Will Month scheme, which returns this April.
Saint Michael’s, the hospice care charity caring for people affected by terminal illness and bereavement across the Harrogate district, is once again inviting the community to take part in its annual Make a Will Month initiative.
Make a Will Month sees participating local solicitors waive their professional fees throughout April, encouraging clients to make a donation to Saint Michael’s.
Local lady June Culf, who volunteers at one of Saint Michael’s 11 community shops, took the opportunity to have this important legal document drawn up as part of the 2018 initiative.
June said: “It was so easy to do, the solicitor made sure everything was correct and it’s all official now. My family know where my will is and we don’t need to worry about it.”
June explained why having an up to date will is so important: “There can be so much controversy otherwise. Families can find it difficult to sort things out if there is no will.”
June considered the scheme such a great idea she also encouraged her daughter and son in-law to get involved.
“It definitely made a difference knowing that I was able to contribute to the hospice – knowing that your money goes to such a good cause if you make your will in April.
“Saint Michael’s does such wonderful work and living locally you never know if you or someone close to you will need their services one day.”
Saint Michael’s chief executive, Tony Collins, explained that many people have not yet made their will: “Many people feel that they are too busy to make a will or that the subject is difficult to talk about, however making a will with a solicitor is one of the best ways of ensuring the people and things you care about are looked after.
“We are exceptionally grateful that local solicitors are so generously supporting Saint Michael’s this April as part of our popular Make a Will Month, which in turns means we can offer people in our community a simple and straightforward way to draw up this important document.”
As part of Make a Will Month, participating solicitors will offer clients a basic single or mirror will, helping the charity to raise funds towards the £6 million it plans to spend in the coming year providing hospice services to local families.
Tony added: “Appointments are filling up fast, so we encourage those considering making their will as part of this rewarding initiative to get in touch today to request their free information pack.”
