Volunteers – you are our everyday heroes!
To mark Volunteers’ Week – which runs from June 1 -7 - and to acknowledge the skills and dedication of the 100s of volunteers who support local hospice care, chief executive of Saint Michael’s Hospice, Tony Collins, sent this letter to the Harrogate Advertiser series of papers.
It’s Volunteers’ Week June 1-7, and I would like to take this opportunity to give sincere thanks to all our everyday heroes who generously support Saint Michael’s with their time.
As a charity, we rely on the support of our community to help us carry out our vital work, supporting local families with terminal illness and bereavement.
And this community support extends to our volunteers – you are involved in almost every aspect of hospice life. Without your hard work and commitment, we simply could not continue to provide care, comfort and support to people affected by terminal illness.
You help us run our 12 community shops; you provide emotional support for people living with bereavement; you welcome people to our hospice; you support people in their own homes. We benefit from your help as volunteer drivers, gardeners, fundraisers, admin assistants and those of you who go into the community to spread the word about Saint Michael’s services.
Each of you contribute not just time, but also skills, experience, energy and enthusiasm and we are so grateful to our superstar volunteers for what you help us achieve,
Every hour you give means we can continue to provide even more care to even more local people living with terminal illness and bereavement, when it is most needed.
Chief Executive, Saint Michael’s.
