'Our shops are a community hub'

We are pleased to confirm that the following Saint Michael's Shops reopened on 4th July 2020 and we thank our wonderful community for their incredible support.

House and Home, 196 Ripon Road, Harrogate

107 Cold Bath Road, Harrogate

42 Church Avenue, Harrogate

149 Kings Road, Harrogate

36 Market Place, Knaresborough

6 North Street, Ripon

Our Leeds Road and Station Parade Shops in Harrogate will reopen on Saturday 8th August, and whilst Boroughbridge, Jennyfields and Starbeck remain temporarily closed, we will reopen them as soon as we possibly can.

For the safety of our customers, volunteers and staff, we have implemented a number of changes to our ways of working. Please do not hesitate to speak to our wonderful team if you have any questions;

Social distancing

We will be following social distancing measures in our shops and would ask you to do the same. Clear signage will be in place and our team will be on hand to help.

We will be limiting the number of people allowed into our shops at any given time, to help with social distancing; this number will differ per shop. Please see window posters or speak to a member of our local shop team for help.

Reduced opening hours

Shops that have reopened will have reduced hours.

Quarantined and centralised donations for our shops

We are always very grateful for kind donation(s), however we have created a centralised approach to donations on a temporary basis. This is for the safety of our customers, volunteers and staff and to ensure the quarantine of all donated goods for 48 hours (in line with updated government guidelines). This also means that we will be unable to accept donations in the shops themselves for the time being. As an alternative we have been gratefully accepting donations at our Donation Drop Off Point (excluding furniture) on Hookstone Wood Road, Harrogate, HG2 8PN.

PLEASE NOTE: Our Donation Drop Off Point is temporarily closed until Monday 17th August 2020 at 10am. We have been overwhelmed by the incredible generosity of our community and the huge number of donations received.  Items are arriving faster than we can distribute them and we have reached a point where we are currently full, and need to pause temporarily in order to remain in line with Covid-19 safety guidelines. We have been sorting and distributing gradually over the last 4 weeks but now need to do so over an extended period of ten working days to make space for more wonderful donations. As we remain unable to accept your kind donations in our shops, this means that between Wednesday 5th August and Sunday 16th August we will be unable to accept any shop donations and would ask you to keep them safe at home for this period of time.

Details that may be useful for once we reopen on Monday 17th August;

  • Our donation drop off point is normally open Monday to Friday 10am until 4pm
  • All donations will be quarantined for a minimum of 48 hours before they are sorted and put on sale.
  • Please note that we are unable to return any bags or boxes used to deliver the donations to us; this is to ensure hygiene guidance surrounding Coronavirus is adhered to.
  • Given the above temporary arrangements, we are currently unable to apply gift aid to your donations.
  • Should you wish to donate furniture to Saint Michael’s Hospice, please call our House & Home Shop on 01423 563230 and they will be happy to talk through the specific process for this, again keeping safety at the very centre.

Cleaning facilities

When entering our shops please clean your hands using the products we have provided. Hand sanitiser is available at the entrance and at till points.

Our staff will be wearing PPE and sneeze guards have been installed at each till point. Regular clean downs will be carried out and checklist completed to ensure adherence.

Changing rooms

Unfortunately, our changing rooms will not be available at this time.

If you have any queries, do not hesitate to contact your local shop from the 4th July onwards, who will be happy to help.

Please see our FAQs here for any additional questions that you may have.

That is what you could get from a Saint Michael’s shopping experience.

Indulge in a bit of retail therapy by dropping into one of our 12 shops. These sell just about everything imaginable, some even specialising in particular types of goods.

Our charity shops rely entirely on the generosity of the communities we serve. Our customers and volunteers donate the goods we sell in our shops. We are always looking for good quality clothing, CDs, DVDs, toys and games, shoes, accessories, books and homeware.
