Volunteer for Saint Michael's

COVID-19 has had an effect on the way we run some of our services, the way we raise funds and, the way our supporters can volunteer. Our commitment to the health and safety of patients, volunteers and staff means some of our more 'traditional' volunteering roles are currently not available.

The latest guidance on volunteering during COVID-19 can be found at https://www.gov.uk/volunteering/coronavirus-volunteering. As this remains an ever-changing situation we would encourage you to keep abreast with the guidance outlined and how it affects you.

At the time of writing the guidance stated that people can volunteer outside their home during COVID-19, if they are well, no-one in their household has coronavirus symptoms and they follow social distancing guidelines.

Further guidance is offered to people who are clinically vulnerable or who are over 70-years-old. They can volunteer outside their home if

  • the volunteering organisation does a risk assessment, and,
  • they can work in a separate area away from other people

For those individuals defined as extremely clinically vulnerable, the government advises individuals not to volunteer outside your own home.

However, as some of our roles are very public facing, for example in our shops, they do not allow for our volunteers to work in a separate area away from other people, as outlined by the government and presented above. This means that for volunteers who are clinically vulnerable, extremely clinically vulnerable and/or over 70-years old, they remain inappropriate at this time.
