The benefits of day therapy

Brian Wynn was diagnosed with cancer of the kidneys and lungs in 2009.

The news came five years after the death of his beloved wife Marjorie and the former policeman of thirty years could have been forgiven for accepting the hand fate had dealt him.

But from the moment he first visited Saint Michael’s with his daughter, Patricia, after a referral from Harrogate District Hospital, he knew his new life as part of the family in the hospice’s day therapy unit was about to be enriched.

“My daughter and I both gasped in astonishment when we first came to Saint Michael’s. I felt the affect the first time I walked through the door,” said 85-years-young Brian, who is brought to day therapy every Tuesday from his home in Ripon.

“Day therapy for me is overwhelmingly helpful. The facilities and the company are just wonderful and I receive all the specialised support and medical care I need.

“I wish it could last forever, I really do.”

Day therapy at Saint Michael’s takes place four days a week with a specialised multi-disciplinary team providing a variety of medical, therapeutic and spiritual care.
