Planned Respite Care

Caring for someone with a terminal illness at home can place both physical and emotional stress on both the carer and the person they are looking after.

Our planned respite service offers vital support by offering the person living with terminal illness an opportunity to book a short stay at our Hospice, at Crimple Valley, Harrogate. This gives both the patient and carer an opportunity for a period of respite.

During the respite break each person staying with us is offered 24 hour care and support from our specialist patient care team. Meanwhile their carer/family members have the opportunity for a break. For some people this means time to do something different or simply to have a rest.

Respite stays at Saint Michael’s Hospice are suitable for people who are living at home with a terminal illness and have physical symptoms that are stable. They usually last six nights, although there may be opportunities to lengthen this time period. Patients can access up to four weeks every year.

Planned respite stays are free to patients and their families and are available to people living in the Harrogate district, who are 18 years old and upwards.
